Overturn Critical Race Theory Bans Petition

Petition for Automatic Voter Registration

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865 when Union soldiers reached Texas and the enslaved people there finally learned they’d been freed three years earlier by the Emancipation Proclamation of 1862.

Last week, Biden declared Juneteenth a federal holiday.

‍If you are not Black, Juneteenth is NOT a day to take off. It’s a day to TAKE ON. Take on the work to be anti-racist and to uplift and fight for Black people and Black liberation.

‍Here’s the issue–

As Blair Imani states,it is backwards that the country makes a holiday to commemorate steps towards the end of chattel enslavement before it provides reparations for having and profiting off of chattel enslavement in the first place.

‍(Not to mention that Friday was the FIRST Federal Juneteenth holiday in American history. It took the U.S. government 159 years to officially recognize this crucial day in Black liberation and Black history.)

‍If you are not Black, do not take Juneteenth off. Take Juneteenth ON by:

1. Learning the history of Juneteenth.
2. Signing petitions below to fight for Black liberation.
3. Juneteenth is not enough
4. Overturn laws that ban teaching about America’s history of systemic racism
5. Urge states to pass automatic voter registration to reduce voter suppression
